Pronouns.

We use pronouns to replace names. Sometimes, we use the same name repetitively in our conversation/writing. To avoid this, we use pronouns.

A page from First Grammar Book for Children (W. Walker & Sons, 1900)

For example:

Dhaniyah is 10 years old. Dhaniyah likes to cook.

Dhaniyah is 10 years old. She likes to cook.

Let's have a look at another example:

Aqil, Sharif and Omar are friends. Aqil, Sharif and Omar like to play Beyblade.

Aqil, Sharif and Omar are friends. They like to play Beyblade.

Sometimes, we use possessive pronouns to show ownership. Who owns this? Who owns that?

For example:

1. That is Qistina's book. The book is hers.

2. Danial writes with that pencil. The pencil is his.

3. This bag belongs to you. It's yours.  (note that I replace the 'bag' with 'it')

4. That's my chocolate. It's mine.
