My Family.

This is a three-part lesson. This is the first session. At the end of all sessions, we will:

1. Read and write about one's family with guidance.
2. Use capital letters and full stops correctly.

Look at the photo above.  What colour are the baby's eyes? They are blue. What does the lady have? She has got a yellow flower. So, What is this photo about? It's about a family.

This week we are going to talk about families. You may refer to your GetSmart Plus 3 Student's book page 11, and the notes provided to you. Read or watch the video below.

Let's answer the question by playing the audio below. You may pause every time you listen to each question (The answer is given right after the question).

Before we move on with the next lesson, let's try and see if you can get the punctuations correct.  Each sentence must start with a capital letter and ends with a full stop. Try this quiz out:

Let's play the clock game!

Look at the GetSmart Student's book page 10. There's a game where you can play with your family. If you happened to have learned about telling time, you can try this out. You can use crumpled paper or even small objects like rubbers and coins! Let's look at how it's played:

Just throw the object on one of the pictures! To make it more interesting, you can have a scoreboard and jot down the marks of each correct answer.

You can also photocopy the page so that you don't have to worry about folding the book. Download here if you wish to have it as an independent sheet.

Pronouns.

We use pronouns to replace names. Sometimes, we use the same name repetitively in our conversation/writing. To avoid this, we use pronouns.

A page from First Grammar Book for Children (W. Walker & Sons, 1900)

For example:

Dhaniyah is 10 years old. Dhaniyah likes to cook.

Dhaniyah is 10 years old. She likes to cook.

Let's have a look at another example:

Aqil, Sharif and Omar are friends. Aqil, Sharif and Omar like to play Beyblade.

Aqil, Sharif and Omar are friends. They like to play Beyblade.

Pronoun
😎 I
👨 he
👧 she
😎👧 we
😎👉   ðŸ‘¦ðŸ‘§ they
👘 it

Sometimes, we use possessive pronouns to show ownership. Who owns this? Who owns that?

For example:

1. That is Qistina's book. The book is hers.

2. Danial writes with that pencil. The pencil is his.

3. This bag belongs to you. It's yours.  (note that I replace the 'bag' with 'it')

4. That's my chocolate. It's mine.

😎mine
👨his
👧hers
😎👧ours
😎👉   ðŸ‘¦ðŸ‘§theirs

Let's listen to this song to get more ideas about possessive pronouns.

Now, you can try this quiz to see how much you understand pronouns. What is your score?

2. Use has got/have got correctly.

By Alessio Sbarbaro User_talk:Yoggysot - Own work, CC BY-SA 2.

Have you been to the beach? What can you do at the beach? Anna and Greg are collecting shells. How many shells have they got? You may refer to page 6 of your textbook.

We use has got for one person. We use haven't got for more than one person. Now, look at the pictures below (click on each picture to make it bigger):

Let's listen to the video. Then, complete this table!

Finally, you may complete the worksheets below and email them to your teachers:
