Tree.

The tree is important to our lives. It gives oxygen for us to breathe. The leaves make food from the sunlight. The roots help to make sure that the tree does not fall. There are big trees and small trees.

What is the difference between a tree trunk and a stem?

a, an, the

Today, 3 Gemilang learned about articles a, an and the. Article is an adjective. So, it changes the noun. What is the difference between a/an and the? a/an is used to tell something that is not specific.

For example, Umairah is a doctor. Meanwhile, the is to talk about something specific.

For example, The doctor is Umairah.

Let's try another one. Let's read a book! - which means you can pick any book you like.

Let's read the book! -which means you have the specific book in mind, like Spiderman, Ben10 etc.

What about a and an? Why are they different?

an - is for any noun that starts from the letter a,e,i,o,or u

a - is for any noun that starts from anything but the letter a,e,i and u Try it yourself! Here is a test for you: http://www.englisch-hilfen.de/en/exercises/nouns_articles/a_the.htm

Students of 3 Cemerlang, 3 Iltizam and 3 Progresif were given a lesson on environment today. They were shown some videos on the rainforest and endangered species. This was based on a Year 3 topic of Flora and Fauna. 3 Progresif were given extra worksheets to guide them with the topic.

Here is the original short film shown just now, entitled "On Borrowed Time". It was produced by WWF Malaysia.

What do you think about the story? You can use these questions to help you:

1. Do you think the poachers are doing the right thing?
2. How can the animals become endangered?
3. Will the animals survive in the future, or will they be extinct?
4. Do you think we are helping these animals? Why?
5. Can you help to fight against these illegal poachers? How?

Picture story: The conquerer and Mr Sheep

The conquerer
by Iftiqar (3 Cemerlang)

One day I sleep on my pillow. This pillow has the best dream. I dream I am a captain of a ship. I embark Portuguese ship. I want to go to Malacca with this ship. On the journey I fight with Spanish ship, Italian ship, and French ship. Suddenly I reach Malacca. I rule the country.

Teacher's comment:
Weird dream indeed. However, you have made a good job in telling your story. Maybe you will become a better ruler than the Portuguese?

Mr Sheep
by Ines

One day I was sleeping. And then, I was dreaming. There was a sheep. They called him Mr Sheep. Mr Sheep loved to ride his aeroplane. It was his hobby. So he flew away. We did not know where he was going. He was going to Australia to receive a blue packet. So the next day he took the blue packet. So he went home to the village. Everyone was so happy! Suddenly the King arrived. He wanted Mr Sheep to become the Prime Minister. The End.

Teacher's comment:
Hurm... I wonder what is inside the blue packet. It must be something that all the villagers like. Anyway, good job!

Picture story: Harry and me, Mr and Mrs Bunny

Yesterday the students were asked to come up with a story based on 2 pictures given by their teacher. The pictures showed an aeroplane and a jet. Here are some of the stories that might interest you:

Harry and me

by Ariff Aiman (3 Cemerlang)

I sleep in jet. The jet is blue in colour. I sleep on a pillow. One day, I fell from sky. I was about to die but Harry Potter saved me. Harry Potter taught me how to play with magic. After 10 years, I become a magician. Harry becomes my best friend forever.

Teacher's comment:
A very creative attempt with very simple language. I never thought such a story can be related to famous movie characters such as Harry Potter. Keep up the good work and you will become a good writer.

Mr Bunny and Mrs Bunny

One day,Mr Bunny got an aeroplane. He loves aeroplane. He likes to pilot the aeroplane with his wife Mrs Bunny. The next day, Mrs Bunny got a jet. Mr Bunny was jealous. They exchange the aeroplane. Then Mrs Bunny gave Mr Bunny the jet and Mr Bunny gave her the aeroplane. And they live happily ever after.

Teacher's comment:
There is a good moral value to this story. It shows that there must be mutual respect between people. Tolerance is also important to create a harmonious environment. Keep up the good work!

More coming up later.
