Introduction to conjunctions.




 

We use conjunctions to connect sentences and phrases. In this post I will show you how to use and and but.



and

Sometimes, we write two sentences that have the same idea. For example:


I like cakes.

I like chicken.




We can combine the two sentences using and. They will become:

I like cakes and chicken.

Let's try with another example:


Ali doesn't like broccoli.

Danial doesn't like broccoli.


The sentences will become:

Ali and Danial don't like broccoli.



but

Sometimes, we use two sentences that are different in ideas. For example:


I like pizza.
He likes muffin.


We can combine the two sentences using but. It will become:

I like pizza but he likes muffin.

Let's try with another example:



It's raining.
She hasn't got an umbrella.


The sentences will become:

It's raining but she hasn't got an umbrella.

We can use parts of speech to make sentences. These are some of the main parts of speech that can help you in making sentences.

Fun with prepositions.

This is Matt. He's a firefighter. He saves lives. Where does he work? He works in a fire station.

This is an example of using prepositions.We use prepositions to tell us where a person, place, thing or animal is.

Superlative Adjectives.

 

Before this, we have learned about adjectives and comparative adjectives. Remember, adjectives are used to describe a noun. 

We use comparative adjectives to compare between two things. However, if we want to pick the highest quality between 3 or more things, we use superlative adjectives.


Superlatives

Which animal is the biggest? Taken from https://www.meddybemps.com/ 


We will start the phrase with the, followed by the adjective and adding -est to the adjective. It will look like this:


The boy is the + tall + est 

The boy is the tallest.




Now, let's look at the picture and make sentences:
1. The bear is tall.
2. The elephant is taller than the bear.
3. The giraffe is the tallest.

If the adjective is more than one syllable, we will just add the most. It will look like this:


That is the most + expensive car. 

That is the most expensive car.
