When we use past tense, we will either add -d, -ed, or -ied next to the verb, or change the word altogether. These are some of the examples of words that we change altogether:

go -> went              catch -> caught       have -> had            make -> made  take -> took            eat    ->  ate  swim -> swam         see  -> saw
