Tree.

The tree is important to our lives. It gives oxygen for us to breathe. The leaves make food from the sunlight. The roots help to make sure that the tree does not fall. There are big trees and small trees.

a, an, the

Today, 3 Gemilang learned about articles a, an and the. Article is an adjective. So, it changes the noun. What is the difference between a/an and the? a/an is used to tell something that is not specific.

For example, Umairah is a doctor. Meanwhile, the is to talk about something specific.

For example, The doctor is Umairah.

Let's try another one. Let's read a book! - which means you can pick any book you like.

Let's read the book! -which means you have the specific book in mind, like Spiderman, Ben10 etc.

What about a and an? Why are they different?

an - is for any noun that starts from the letter a,e,i,o,or u

a - is for any noun that starts from anything but the letter a,e,i and u Try it yourself! Here is a test for you: http://www.englisch-hilfen.de/en/exercises/nouns_articles/a_the.htm

Ending the rainforest project

Before the school ends, students of 3 Cemerlang and 3 Progresif had involved extensively in the rainforest project. This is part of the Year 3 syllabus. I would like to thank all the students who participated in the project. I will edit our work to be posted as a response to the "On Borrowed Time" short film. In the meantime, if you are around Ampang after the holiday, come to the Taman Warisan celebration in Taman Rimba Ampang this Saturday (19 November 2011). There will be a lot of fun-filled activities such as face painting and nature craft. And most importantly, admission is free! Have a look at the poster.

On borrowed time

Students of 3 Cemerlang, 3 Iltizam and 3 Progresif were given a lesson on environment today. They were shown some videos on the rainforest and endangered species. This was based on a Year 3 topic of Flora and Fauna. 3 Progresif were given extra worksheets to guide them with the topic.

Here is the original short film shown just now, entitled "On Borrowed Time". It was produced by WWF Malaysia.

What do you think about the story? You can use these questions to help you:

1. Do you think the poachers are doing the right thing?
2. How can the animals become endangered?
3. Will the animals survive in the future, or will they be extinct?
4. Do you think we are helping these animals? Why?
5. Can you help to fight against these illegal poachers? How?
